Malcolm has been keen to do this book as it completes all the large adjacent coastal areas that his wheatbelt book does not cover and it also replaces and updates a popular book he released in 1997 The Special Eucalypts of Perth and the South-West.
To do so Malcolm has collaborated with long-time friend, Dean Nicolle. It's 25 years since they last collaborated to produce their first book The eucalypts of the Mudgee district (NSW), printed in 1994.
Their collaboration here has been a great pleasure for both, and they feel privileged to be able to share their knowledge of the unique eucalypts of the south-west of Western Australia through this book.

In the year 2000, Malcolm considered he should do more to assist those in doing the many revegetation projects underway across the wheatbelt particularly with their eucalypt identifications and plant selection for the many various soil types. Malcolm was also keen to share his knowledge of the eucalypts of the wheatbelt to those that enjoy the walks through the many woodlands of the wheatbelt. These walks are always joyful and if this book may enhance everyone's knowledge and pleasure in same, then fantastic.
After 12 years of extensive research, Malcolm published ‘Eucalypts of Western Australia’s Wheatbelt’
In 2015 Malcolm was awarded an OAM for this work.
